The Australian marketing decision framework.

By Adam Ducquet · 15 June 2026 · 3 min read

Practical decision framework for Australian businesses making marketing-related operational decisions. When to scale paid media, when to invest in content, when to build B2B wholesale, when to consolidate platforms, when to add headcount. Drawn from our client engagements.

Six common marketing-related decisions

1. Should we scale paid media spend by another/month?

Decision criteria: Is current paid spend still acquiring at acceptable CAC? Are unit economics still working at current scale? Has CAC trended in last 90 days? Decide yes if: CAC stable, unit economics healthy, additional volume likely doesn't compress CAC dramatically. Decide no if: CAC trending up, attribution data unreliable, unit economics already stressed.

2. Should we invest in long-form content marketing?

Decision criteria: Is your buyer high-consideration? Do you serve regulated verticals where authority matters? Are competitors winning long-tail SEO + GEO citations? Decide yes if: high-consideration B2B (industrial), regulated healthcare, mid-to-luxury B2C. Decide no if: impulse-purchase low-consideration B2C where attribution-led testing dominates.

3. Should we build a B2B wholesale layer alongside B2C?

Decision criteria: Do you have repeat-purchase wholesale demand from retailers / corporate buyers? Could account-based pricing tier-up unit margins? Is current ad-hoc wholesale workflow consuming sales-rep time? Decide yes if: documented wholesale demand, tier-up potential, sales-rep time savings. Decide no if: wholesale is single-customer ad-hoc with no recurrence.

4. Should we re-platform from WooCommerce to Shopify (or vice versa)?

Decision criteria: Is current platform constraining business operations? Is total cost of ownership trending against you? Is your operational complexity better matched to the alternative? Decide yes if: documented platform constraint + alternative fits the operational shape better + migration cost vs ongoing-cost-savings maths works. Decide no if: current platform mostly works + migration risk exceeds expected benefit.

5. Should we consolidate to a single agency or run a panel?

Decision criteria: Is your in-house function strong enough to coordinate a panel of specialists? Or do you need integrated delivery under one strategist? Decide single-agency if: mid-market without dedicated marketing operations team, regulated vertical needing integrated compliance, multi-brand portfolio needing coherent strategy. Decide panel if: enterprise with dedicated CMO function + budget for coordination overhead + specialist-depth-per-discipline matters.

6. Should we hire in-house or extend the agency engagement?

Decision criteria: Marketing budget tier? Specialist needs? Recruitment market accessibility for the senior specialists you'd need? Decide hire in-house if:. Decide extend agency if: below annual marketing budget OR regulated vertical needing specialist compliance OR recruitment market for senior specialists is constrained.
